Good morning Whimsers and Happy Tuesday!! I hope all of my moms had a great Mother’s Day and that your day was filled with love, relaxation, and happiness.
It’s hard looking for a gift that says, “I love and appreciate you” for someone as valuable as a mother. Before my mother passed, I would spend hours trying to find the perfect gift, only to end up making her something. Some may think that purchasing the most expensive items mean the most, but to me, nothing says I love you like the time and effort spent creating a gift from the heart with your hands.
That’s why I decided to make this adorable outfit for my trendy, kind, and beautiful Mother-in law Cheryl. She’s so sweet and has a huge heart for everybody. Such a social butterfly and the best mom to her two children and loving Grandmother to all of her Grand loves! I wanted to give her something special from my heart to show her how much she means to me and Simplicity’s patterns 8092 & 1373 helped me out with that!
Culottes are so on trend (in my mind they have always been) right now and Cheryl is a sassy, well dressed woman. When I saw pattern 8092 I knew they would be perfect for her! Boom! Then the search was on for a cute top, but it didn’t last long because pattern 1373 caught my eye! I put the two together and they were indeed a match made in Heaven!
I imagined her sauntering around in her adorable outfit. Hands in pockets and flowing here and there….in linen!! Yes!! Super Boom!! I chose this beautiful mustard linen fabric for the culottes in Wood Honey and then this awesome black linen fabric with amazing patterns in mustard, turquoise, pink, and cranberry in Mini Aztec at Joann fabric and craft store! I purchased my fabric, patterns, and headed home to make a gift from my heart just for her. Now, the culottes!!
I love, love, love these pants and they look super cute on her. The linen was a great choice because of the drape and she can wear these culottes with heels, sandals, and different tops! She loves her pockets lol! I chose to sew View B.
They were fairly easy to construct. The instructions were clear and the darts, pleats and pockets really make this pant.
They are super chic, comfortable, sexy casual, and a great length. They close with a back invisible zipper.
Now the top!!
Vavoom!! The Aztec shapes on this fabric… Amazing! I just fell in love with it and I really love how it looks made with this pattern! Look at the back of it! The tie in the back is everything and the cutout with the lower peplum is just gorgeous. She wears it well! Yes, she’s cute lol!
The top came along great as well, but the illustration shows you when to use the bias tape, not the written directions. If you are new to sewing and going to sew this top with bias tape, please sew your bias tape to your straps before assembling the top!!
I also adjusted the width of my straps by adding small pleats in the center front of each strap because I felt they would be too wide for her small frame. I love how it turned out. I chose to sew View B.
It has a side zipper in the back with an eye hook closure.
I love this picture! Work it Cheryl!! Yasssssss!
I love both of these patterns and I’m sure I will be making them again!
Cheryl and my Father-in-law gifted me a Viking sewing machine for Christmas and I lost it when I opened my box. Tears, tears and more tears. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts and I cherish it with all my heart. I named her Matilda and we get down sewing late at night. I love that machine and I think of Cheryl with each stitch.
I’m thankful that I could make this and Cheryl, I love and appreciate you. Your heart is beautiful and you are a blessing to me. I just want you to know that. Happy Mother’s Day..every Day!! Xoxo!!
I hope you enjoyed this post and don’t forget to share! Hugs to you all and until next time!!!
